You know that feeling when you're riding along
and all-of-a-sudden-like something goes wrong and
you just absolutely know that you and your bike are going to a take a thumping
tumble?
It is a millisecond moment of truth you never
forget.
It is from this place in the hearts of bikers
from which RHYDAR'S RIDER'S RAG comes, for in spite of rush of terror you
pretend you are
not experiencing, in that adrenalin suffused moment, you absolutely know that
you are ALIVE and the consequence of what is about to happen rests entirely in
the hands of a power greater than yourself!
THE RAG
does not advocate reckless endangerment or stupidity! On the contrary, we
encourage bike and biking safety, a fact expressed in our support of, and
alliance with, the THINK BIKE
campaign. But if you are a biker, sooner or later you are going to experience
your moment of truth! It is this knowledge that separates "bikers of
heart" of the rest. It is the desire to live every moment
to the fullest, knowing that life is fragile, yet you step forward boldly.
And you have faith. And you never forget those less
fortunate than yourself.
THE RAG
is
for "bikers of heart".
Reading, writing and riding have been
life long-passions.
THE RAG
is my effort to embrace these passions and have a bit of fun in the
process. Believe it or not, it all started that day I stopped in
Warden (en route to Potch) for fuel and spotted an ancient, rickety donkey-drawn
cart parked alongside a brand- spanking new Toyota 4x4 and I thought, "Only
in Africa, mate, only in Africa." I was struck by the amazing diversity of
our land and the challenge of merging that which - at first - seems so
incompatible.
It is a
theme that will always characterise THE
RAG, for it calls for an attitude of
open-mindedness. It is the closed mind that loses the ability to create
and it is only in creativity that humour, especially the ability to laugh
at one's own foibles, is to be found. An open mind brings even the most
familiar and mundane to life, injecting a sense of new that is the secret
of eternal youth.
A long time ago I decided
I would never grow old.I hope you enjoy the result. Oh,
and before I forget, I also happen to think that SA
is the damn finest biking country on earth! I mean, where else in the world can
you walk into a strange pub and hear the word "Oom" described as
a "knoop in 'n hond se piel"? (Yeah, you had to be there. I
was...)
Ride safe,
ride awesome and THINK BIKE
LOONE RHYDAR
